Once upon a time Mayan motifs were popular in Soviet Russia. The only vendor for playing cards at the time (along with damn near everything else) was the Soviet State, so there were only a few types of cards – perhaps only a few dozen; certainly not hundreds or thousands as in other societies. And one of those limited sets playing card sets was devoted to the Mayan culture. (Via English Russia)
