Erin M. Riley weaves tapestries. But these are not the medieval weavings of unicorns and princesses that may come to mind when you think about tapestries. Instead, Riley puts incredible amounts of time and effort into recreating snapshots that capture the fleeting moments of bad decisions.
Not one to drink or do drugs herself, Riley says that she thinks about the unintended and unconsidered consequences of what happens after these snapshots have long been deleted from your Facebook page. And while it is occasionally rejected or misunderstood due to the unusual medium and themes, Riley’s work is starting to gain not just acceptance but accolades as well from places like Philadelphia’s The Fleisher Art Memorial where her tapestries will be on display in December.
